STARI GRAD

 

Stari Grad (Faros) is the oldest town in Croatia.

The story of Faros, today's Stari Grad, began back in 384 BC when the ancient Greeks from the island of Paros sailed into Stari Grad Bay and founded the town.
 

Close to the shore, with a large square in front of it, is Tvrdalj - a monumental Renaissance castle of an eminent Stari Grad nobleman Petar Hektorović.

Regardless of which way you decide to walk around the streets of  Stari Grad, you will feel peacefulness that can only be provided by experiencing the past that is still so present in Stari Grad.

The town is surrounded with pine tree forest and cooled with summer breeze (maestral). In the hot summer days it is one of the rare Dalmatian places where the air is fresh and the sleep refreshing. A thousand years long history of the Town has left many monuments in the urban structure of the Town.
